# Nossy vs Google Sheets

> Google Sheets is where most small shops keep their records, and it is a good place to keep them. Nossy keeps the sheet and takes over the typing, from the chat your team is already in.

## Short answer

Nossy does not replace Google Sheets. Nossy runs on Google Sheets. The workbook Nossy builds is a spreadsheet in the business owner's own Google Drive, and the owner can open it, edit it, and keep it after cancelling. What changes is who fills it in. Staff send messages and photos to the group chat they already use, and Nossy writes the rows.

## What Google Sheets is for

Google Sheets is a free, collaborative spreadsheet from Google. It is the reason most small businesses have any records at all. It opens on any phone, several people can edit the same file at once, the history shows who changed what, and nobody has to be taught what a spreadsheet is. For a business working out how it wants to operate, a blank sheet is still the best first move there is.

## Where it breaks in a chat-run shop

### The sheet quietly becomes two things

A workbook starts as a place to store numbers. Then it grows tabs for sales, stock, deposits, bookings, and daily notes, and it is now the database and the screen the staff use. Those two jobs want opposite things. The database wants strict columns. The person on a phone at closing time wants three taps.

### Nobody updates it at the counter

The delivery arrives while both hands are full. Nobody opens a spreadsheet on a phone in the middle of that. The stock note goes into the group chat instead, because the chat is already open, and the sheet falls a day behind. Then a week. The owner catches up at night, from the scrollback, guessing at what the messages meant.

### Asking it a question means opening it

"Did we pay that supplier" is a five-second question with a five-minute answer, because somebody has to find the file, find the tab, and scroll. So people stop asking, and start guessing. The numbers exist and nobody reads them.

## What Nossy does instead

### The chat becomes the way in

Staff tell Nossy what happened in the group chat they already use, in plain words. Stock received, an order placed, a payment made, a booking taken. Nossy writes it as a row in the workbook. It records who sent the message and when from the message itself, so the provenance is there without anyone typing it.

### A photo of a bill becomes a row

Someone sends a photo of a receipt or a delivery note straight into the chat. Nossy files the image in the project's Drive folder and writes the row with a link back to it. When it reads a number off the image, a price or a count, it confirms that number with the sender before it treats it as fact.

### Answers come back in the chat

Ask what stock is left or whether a supplier was paid, and Nossy reads the sheet fresh and answers in the chat. It can also send the answer without being asked: a daily summary at eight in the morning, a weekly report, a reminder that the tax filing is due. Nobody opens anything.

## Job by job

| The job | With Google Sheets today | With Nossy |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| A receipt arrives mid-shift | Photograph now, type it in later, or forget | Send the photo to the chat, the row appears |
| Stock goes out | Open the file, find the tab, edit on a phone | Say it in the chat in one line |
| Someone asks what is left | Find the file and scroll | Ask in the chat, get the number |
| Setting up the columns | You design the sheet yourself, exactly how you want it | An interview shapes the tables around your business |
| A one-off calculation or a chart | Write the formula yourself, right now, for free | Nossy answers questions, but the sheet is still where you build formulas |
| Working with no signal | The mobile app keeps working offline | Nossy needs the chat to reach it, so it needs a connection |
| Month end | Read back the chat and summarise by hand | The rows were written as the month happened |
| Who entered this, and when | A column someone has to remember to fill | Stamped from the message automatically |

## What Nossy does not do

- Nossy works in LINE, Telegram, and WhatsApp direct chats. WhatsApp group chats and iMessage are coming soon.
- Nossy does not connect to your other software yet. Tool connections are coming soon.
- Nossy never messages your customers. It works inside your team's own chat, and it nudges your own people.
- Nossy does not replace a POS, a payment system, or accounting software.
- Nossy reads a spreadsheet you already have once, during setup, and only if you share it as anyone with the link. Day to day it sees the files it created or was sent in chat, so a file you drop into the Drive folder by hand stays invisible to it.
- The report pages Nossy builds are public links that last about a day. The workbook in your Drive is the durable record.
- Google Sheets is free, and nearly everyone has used one before. An owner who is happy keeping their own sheet current does not need anything else, and should not pay for anything else.
- A sheet you type yourself is exact, because you typed it. Nossy confirms any value it reads off a photo with the sender before it writes it, but for a document where one wrong digit matters, a person entering it by hand is still the surer path.

## Pricing

- Plus is $20 a month with 4,000 credits. Pro is $40 with 8,000. Max is $100 with 20,000.
- One price per business. Your whole team chats with Nossy at no extra cost, because there are no seats.
- Credits measure the work Nossy does. $1 buys 200 credits. Plan credits reset monthly, top-up credits do not expire.
- There is no free plan. Nossy is in beta and we onboard teams by call.

## Common questions

### Can Nossy replace Google Sheets?

No, and it does not try to. Nossy builds its workbook as a spreadsheet in your own Google Drive. Google Sheets stays exactly what it is. Nossy is the thing that keeps it filled in.

### Will my staff actually use it?

They use the group chat they are already in. There is no new app to install and no login to remember. Staff say what happened, and Nossy writes the row. Nossy stamps who sent the message and when, so nobody fills in a "who" or "when" column.

### What does it cost compared to Google Sheets?

Google Sheets is free for personal accounts, and included in Google Workspace plans otherwise (as of 2026-08). Nossy is $20 a month on Plus, $40 on Pro, and $100 on Max, one price for the whole business with no per-seat charge. You are paying for the data entry and the answers, not for the spreadsheet.

### What happens to my data if I stop?

Nothing moves. The workbook is a spreadsheet in your own Google Drive. Cancel Nossy and the file stays where it is, readable and editable, with every row in it.
